One more reason the IHG program is a joke

One more reason the IHG program is a joke

I just learned this from my recent stay at a Kimpton property. But you don’t earn any points on hotel spend if you’re staying on points. So you can spend $1000 on F&B but if your room is an award stay, you’ll get 0 points. Ridiculous.

I’m trying to think of a hotel program that does award points for F&B and cannot, though there may be those that do. I would expect whatever credit card you use to pay for the F&B purchases to award points and if, for example, you used your IHG card to pay for that food that it would count as hotel spend. Am I missing something?

Every hotel program gives you points for F&B regardless of how you paid for your room. Getting credit card points is totally separate from the hotel’s loyalty program.

I’ll admit I can’t remember the last time I charged F&B to the room but I don’t recall ever getting hotel points for it.

Seems exclusive to Kimpton, and not related to how you paid for your stay (points vs cash)

That’s interesting and may indeed be the case.

But on the IHG website, under my activities, it has this note for my recent stay

** Thanks for staying with us. Because your room rate was discounted, it’s not eligible for points.

    Interesting.

I would trust the IHG Terms & Conditions before your account activity, but I guess the end result is the same – no points 🙁

To me that “except at Kimpton hotels” portion of the statement seems to indicate that Kimpton doesn’t award points for any of those other activities and it doesn’t appear from that statement that it’s limited to award stays.
