Booking with Amex travel more expensive?

Booking with Amex travel more expensive?

Hi all, I am new to Amex and to the platinum card. I want to book a hotel in Toronto and have compared booking prices with Amex travel and with the hotel website for two different hotels. For each the Amex room price is $80-100 CAD higher. Am I missing something re some advantage to booking through Amex?

Are you sure you’re not looking at Fine Hotels & Resorts (a benefit of the Platinum Card?) This comes with things like late check-out, upgrade, free wi-fi, etc.

    Thanks, no, just “regular” hotel.

I don’t think the portals necessarily have the cheapest prices so you do have to be careful about booking there. I’ve not priced hotels before but usually the airfare is within about $5 or so. I don’t know if it’s just bad luck on the date/location your looking at or if this is business as usual.

    I’ve experienced the same problem.
