Japan next summer
I want t go to Japan next summer but, the prices out of DC and New York (which would be the most convenient) are VERY HIGH ~1700$ however, the fares out of LAX are much better (~850$ is the cheapest and on AA to HND.) Do you think it is a good idea to book that fare on AA, buy the positioning flight, spend a night in LA, and try to rebook myself on the JAL flight (more like ~1200$) to NRT and will it work?
JFK-LAX round trip can be very expensive so it may not end up saving you any money.
Not sure how’d you rebook yourself on the JAL flight with a paid ticket, unless there is a huge schedule change or a cancellation. Why not buy the flight out right at the beginning?
If you have the time and the cost of the positioning flight + hotel cost less than the flight you want, sure.
Hi @Hugh B, and welcome!
I wouldn’t plan on being able to rebook yourself onto the JAL flight, but positioning to another city for a good fare is something I do all the time.
It’s also worth mentioning that if you’re looking at spending ~$1300+ on economy tickets, there might be better options. Watch for sales, or this could be a good opportunity to buy miles and fly business class.
