Which Star Alliance FFP is the best?

Which Star Alliance FFP is the best?

  1. Degold New Member

Can anyone recommend me which Star Alliance FFP is the best?
There was a post at OMAAT regarding Ethiopian Airlines Business class sale from BKK to YYZ RT and I booked few RT on this route. Some FFP like LH and A3 have mileage accrual of 200% with ET flights but I would like some opinions before entering FFP to ET’s ticket.

    Thanks!

Depends what your are looking for:

Are you planning on earning *A Gold or are just after the miles? Do you have any specific awards in mind that you would like to use the miles on?

And how many flights are a few?

I booked four RTs in C class (BKK-YYZ) in two week period.
Im just after the miles for an award flights on either LH or UA. 4 RTs will definitely earn *A Gold but Im still focusing on earning the miles. Miles & More, SAS and most shows 200% accrual on ET’s C class but if I want an Award seats on LH or UA, Im not sure which FFP is suitable.

    Business Class
    C, J: 2.0 x distance; at least 1,000 miles
    D: 1.5 x distance; at least 750 miles

Well the programs you’re considering are all a part of Star Alliance and they can all book award seats in any Star Alliance airline, if they’re available.

Where are you looking to travel between on LH and UA? That can help decide.

Avianca LifeMiles is decent but making changes or cancellation a is tough since their call center isn’t easy to work with.

UA MileagePlus changed their award rules but they don’t charge fuel charges on any awards and if you book the over water segments on UA metal, the awards are a bit cheaper.

LH Miles&More would mean that you have access to LH F awards earlier than other programs who only have access within 14 days of departure.

Aeroplan has decent rates but pass along fuel surcharges on a handful of airline partners.

Asiana’s award chart can be lucrative in certain instances. They also have access to Etihad awards.

Im planning to use LH and UA to US and Asia routes.
Thanks for your detailed answer. Maybe I should go with LH’s FFP since access to LH F awards open within 14 days!

LH does impose fuel surcharges and miles do expire, regardless of activity, though there are exceptions for certain credit card holders and elite members. But if you’re going to earn & burn perhaps that’s not an issue.
