What would you do with airlines failing to reimburse?

HI lucky, I know you must be very busy or getting a huge number of requests related to mine. I consistently read your blog and enjoy your reviews of airlines, hotels and cabins that I would dream of taking. The reason I want to contact you, is because I, along a large number of passengers have been wronged by our home airline Aeromexico badly. We all bought tickets at different points of the first trimester of the year. I was going to attend (out of my pocket) to a conference in TLV, and many others had vacations planned. Then COVID came and we had to cancel our trips. In my particular case, I was leaving on Saturday; yet they only offered me the option of changing my departure date and paying a difference in price. I find this problematic for two reasons: first of all, I am not free to travel due to my job; I can only take vacations on specific times, and I am not always able to plan in advance. I wanted to travel on July 4th for a particular reason and paid for that service; I do not know if I will be able to travel next year… I do not want an open travel voucher, I want my money back. Secondly, if I wanted to travel to TLV next year just to visit (because my conference got cancelled), I would have to pay a hefty price difference. Call center employee suggests I take another destination, so I quote a MEX-IAH to visit my brother in law and I am charged 200 additional USD (on top of the USD 1k I already paid). If I quote that same flight on the same date with Aeromexico, the price is also USD 200! We are around 60 disgruntled people with similar stories, and we would be thrilled if you could give us some advice on what to do based on your experience. Being a traveling fan, I am usually on the side of airlines on many matters; but this seems like an unethical way of handling your customers’ money. We are a bit desperate and do not know what to do.

Hi there, have you tried reaching out to a higher level via Elliott.org? They maintain a great list of contact information. Good luck! Sorry to hear about your struggles.
