Using Etihad miles for JL / OZ

Using Etihad miles for JL / OZ

  1. Jon Nevin New Member

Can I use Etihad miles to redeem for JAL flights via American? I ask since JAL flights don’t show up online on AA site.

Also same question for OZ on ANA. When I look on ANA site they have availability using OZ. Can I use Etihad for that?

    Thanks

You can only use Etihad Guest miles for flights on their own metal or their partner metal, not their partner’s partner metal – they wont be able to access it.

If you want to fly JAL, try to get AAdvantage miles. If you want to fly OZ, try United, LifeMiles or Aeroplan.

OZ is actually an Etihad partner so you should be able to look up availability there and then call EY to book space. EY award booking doesn’t have a great reputation so you might have to call more than once. Ticketing policies and mileage rates will be based on EY award charts, not ANA.

Here are the Etihad partners that you can use GuestMiles to book awards for: http://www.etihadguest.com/en/spend-miles/airline-partners/

Each airline has their own award chart and rules and the rate structure differs from airline to airline. Furthermore, you cant mix partners on a single award though I’m not sure if you can combine multiple awards onto a single ticket.
