Upgrading seat on Qantas codeshare

Upgrading seat on Qantas codeshare

  1. Anonymous Guest

I bought a ticket(LAX-SYD-CNS-MEL-SYD-LAX) a few months back and I am looking to use miles and/or money to upgrade at least on one of the segments. Most of the segments are AA flight numbers but they are all on Qantas metal. The one segment I would really like to get upgraded on is the return SYD-LAX. It is on the Qantas 380 but it is AA flt. 7363 codeshare. American says because it is on Qantas metal they can’t upgrade and Qantas says that because they are AA flight numbers they can’t and I should call American. Is there anything I can do? I don’t know if it makes a difference but when I bought the ticket, the SYD-LAX flight was on AA Flt. 72 on American metal. They switched to Qantas sometime since I booked and didn’t notify me of course. I don’t mind flying on the A380 but would like to get a better seat. Qantas will assign me a seat with extra leg room in economy for $180 AUD so that would be my last resort. Thanks in Advance.

Upgrades in this situation are a bit murky since there’s code shares involved and I dont believe QF and AA have reciprocal upgrades yet.

However, if your flight was involuntarily changed from AA metal to a code share on QF, I would call to see why they changed it and to see if they can rebook you on AA metal. Once you do that, you should be able to call and request a miles+cash upgrade, assuming there is availability.
