I have a paid ticket in D class MUC-ORD on LH metal (UA codeshare) and would like to upgrade to the first class cabin.
I have miles with multiple Star Alliance carriers. What is the best way to attempt an upgrade?
– with Miles and More?
– through UA or another Star Carrier?Neither shows availability now but there are open seats in F. Can I expect that upgrades may become available within 14 days of travel?

If United issued the ticket, you will generally want to use United miles to upgrade. I believe it may also be possible to use LH miles, but I’ve never done it.
Space may be available closer to departure — no sooner than 14 days if using United miles, but more realistically 2-5 days.
