Update FFP at Check-in no longer possible?

Update FFP at Check-in no longer possible?

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi Ben,

Happy new Year, may 2016 be great for you and your loved ones!

Quick question: last week i was told that the FFP recorded on the Boarding Pass is not relevant, the relevant one is the one used when making the booking.

This was new to me as in the past i have often booked using one FFP and then once in a while changed to another FFP at check-in based on either my need for miles in a specific FFP or last-minute “earn x-times miles promo…” etc…

Never had an issue with it.

Now one airline refused to credit miles even though their FFP number was on my boarding pass, claiming another airline had already credited the flight. Sure enough it was the one whose FFP i used when booking online on their website.

Now while i struggle to understand this, how would it work practically? I mean, status benefits (Prio Lane, Lounge, etc…) are based on recorded FFP, but then how if actually 2 different ones are recorded? One in the booking (which seems to be the relevant one) and one on the boarding pass (which is what security people, lounge employees…) see.

Have you experienced similar problems or can you switch from one FFP to another at Check-in without any problem?

Your ton of experience and comments are most welcome!

    Cheers

    Oliver.

Oliver, I’m curious who told you this. Did the FF number of airline you wanted to credit to show up on your boarding pass?

It would also help to know what airlines are involved; Delta is annoying about not letting you change the number once you’ve checked in, for example.
