United.com award booking acting strange
I am trying to book an open jaw trip from LAX to Rio. I want to stop in Bogota for 10 hours on the way, and when I try to book it as a one way, I get the option I want. However, when I book the return, the 8 pages of options turns into 3 pages, and there are no options through Bogota. I could book as 2 one ways, but then my change fees go up and I lose my extra free one way.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Unfortunately not. With United’s new rule if it is not showing up online it’s likely not bookable. Did you try using the multi city tool?
Hi @Harold, and welcome!
Have you tried filtering the results using Advanced Search? Try setting the flight times and connections to be as specific as possible — that sometimes helps. You actually don’t want to use multi-city, as that can cause the award to over-price.
@guarav–it is showing up online as a one way for 55k. ONly when I go RT or multi-city, there are fewer options. @Tiffany, thanks. Regular reader but didn’t know about the forum. When I get specific using advanced search (times and/or connections), sometimes nothing shows up, even if I am trying for the one way.
@Harold I’ve experienced the same when trying to book multi-city with one of those free one-way flights. The same flights from a one-way search don’t appear on a multi-city search. I have no explanation as to why. However I was able to book one with an agent. I got part of the itinerary to show by starting with a different origin city (makes no sense I know) and booked that part online. Then I called and asked to add a segment from where I wanted to begin to where the reservation began. I explained what happened with the agent. You always have 24 hours to cancel something so you aren’t in danger of any redeposit fees if this doesn’t work.
If your itinerary is valid then I would call. Show them how the one ways appear then explain when you try for their new “enhanced” program it doesn’t appear. They might be able to piece it together. Good luck.
@MarkS thanks. I had it booked with an agent, but one airline didn’t confirm. So I had to start over. It takes them forever, and then this time their system wouldn’t book the first one way as a valid itinerary, and charged for multiple flights. I can’t even get the flights to show on a round trip.
