UA CPU/RPU/GU on Copa

UA CPU/RPU/GU on Copa

Is it possible to use a UA upgrade on a Copa bought L-class fare? If so, how? On the phone with the Copa agent they didn’t understand what I was even asking, but the UA website regularly refers to upgrading on Copa. Is that only on 016 stock though?

Did you book travel directly from Copa or via United as a codeshare? The UA website says once you book there should be an option on your reservation on United website to request an upgrade. If there is upgrade space, you’ll clear immediately. If not, you’ll be added to the wait list.

I would call United, and I think they’ll be able to process it for you. They didn’t use to have plating restrictions with Copa, though that may have changed.

Ok, thanks Tiffany. I’ll call the 1k help-line and see what they say.

    And…what’s a plating restriction?

  5. Anonymous Guest

Plating restrictions are rules that say “Oh, this has to be on our ticket stock in order for us to touch the ticket” or whatever.

As an example, you can upgrade British Airways operated flights with American miles, provided American issued the ticket. If British Airways issued the ticket, American can’t make adjustments. This is also true in most cases, but United and Copa have a different relationship.
