UA airport change EWR-JFK

UA airport change EWR-JFK

1. Anonymous Guest

Hey guys,

We know United only flies out of EWR. I found an award ticket that looks like this: IAD-EWR-(change airport)-JFK-ICN. I was just wondering:
1. if it is bookable by using UA miles?
2. if it is bookable by using ANA miles (assuming I already have a round ticket in mind)?
3. if this is allowed, does that mean I’ll have to claim my luggage first at EWR and then check-in again at JFK (including printing out my second segment of the boarding pass at JFK)?

Thanks a lot!

Should be fine booking it with UA miles. I assume it’ll be fine with ANA but I’m not super familiar with their program. You will have to claim, transport, and re-check your luggage. They should be able to give you all your boarding passes at IAD.

Thanks a lot, Gaurav! One more follow-up question: I guess the international baggage allowance rule applies to the domestic segment IAD-EWR, right? Say I would not pay anything for my checked baggage on the domestic segment even though there will be an airport change.

@san, that’s correct as long as everything is on the same itinerary.

You’re better off trying to fly into LGA and the connecting to JFK, if you really have to switch airports here in NY.

If you really have to connect from Newark to jfk, I wouldn’t do it unless you have a 6+ hour connection.

Thanks for your suggestion, @David! Does anyone know if ANA will allow this change of airport? Thanks!

on an award? I’m not sure. If you find availability, call and ask?

Yeahhh, I was just being lazy and thought I might get a quick answer. But I’ll definitely report back with my experience calling ANA.
