Two different class booking on one same flight

Two different class booking on one same flight

Planned to redeem a business ticket from Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow. But I also need to make a return trip from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur. It’s cheaper to buy a economy return ticket from LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH-LHR than the multicity ticket which is LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH.

Now, I wonder will the airline charge any sort of fee/s if I redeem a business class ticket (NOT upgrade, essentially redeem a separate ticket) from AUH to LHR and use it along with my return ticket? Or will any of these tickets become invalid or incur a penalty charge because the Economy AUH-LHR segment will not be used in this case?

    Kindly advise.

    Hi,

Plan to fly Etihad business on only one leg of my journey, my return journey will be LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH-LHR. It’s cheaper to get a return economy ticket from LHR-KUL than a multicity ticket LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH.

Question now is can I book a return economy ticket LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH-LHR and redeem a business class ticket for the leg AUH-LHR and use both tickets alongside each other without incurring any penalty fee/s? My worry is airline can claim that I don’t show up for the economy segment AUH- LHR of the return ticket and charge me no show fee and etc?

    Kindly give some thoughts. Thanks.

    Welcome

If I’m getting this correctly you have an paid Etihad Y LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH-LHR ticket?

And a J award on you way home to LON? Starting AUH going to LHR? On the same date and time as the AUH-LHR segment of the paid Y ticket?

My understanding as part of the Montreal convention or Warsaw Convention, if you book two same ticket for the same flight, the airline duty is to fly you from departure to destination once, just curious does this applicable to this case when two booking is on different class. Correct me if I’m wrong!

@Michael_T I’m not aware of any airline that charges a penalty for missing a segment. The only concern I might have is if they off board checked luggage if the system shows you as a no-show. I would just give the gate agent a heads up so they know what is going on.

Think we need some real expertise here.

You can have duplicate tickets, that isn’t a problem on most carriers. American will cancel duplicate segments, but typically only if both are awards, or both are revenue.

But keep in mind you cant board the plane with two tickets, so one will be canceled before the doors close. Any baggage associated with that ticket number will be offloaded, and all subsequent segments on that ticket will be canceled.

But it sounds like you’re ditching your last segment? So that would be fine. It’s basically hidden city ticketing at that point.

on the KUL-AUH-LHR leg, how much layover time have you got at AUH?

@Tiffany, I’m assuming that checked luggage would be tied to the ticket number rather than the individual right? So if Michael does not board on his revenue ticket or make arrangements it would be offloaded for the last segment?

worth mentioning, it may be possible to upgrade at the gate without creating an extra ticket.
