TSA Pre-check/ Global Entry: Can you make a walk-in appointment, even if you make one online?
The reason that I’m asking is because the next available interview appointment for the Dallas office is in August, but I am trying to get it as soon as possible. Also, do you get the TSA Pre-check immediately after the appointment or is there a waiting period?
They don’t do walk-ins, but you might be able to call, or keep checking?
You can also book your appointment at an airport you’re transiting through — that’s what I did back in 2011, and it worked fine. You may or may not get Pre-Check immediately (since it’s theoretically random), but there isn’t a waiting period.
My wife and I did ours as walk ins. The next appointment was in seven months at BOS for global entry so we just took a couple of books and parked ourselves outside the office at Logan airport the day after thanksgiving. We were very polite and made sure that we were clear in that we were not expecting to be seen but if they had an opening or cancellation we would be happy to fill it. Took a couple of hours but they worked us in.
Have you tried checking availability at another airport, like IAH or something, and find a cheap round trip fare there?
The wait wasnt too bad for me and my sister at JFK when we did it. The enrollment center was relatively empty when we went. My friend got his done in ORD before we flew back
Thanks for all the suggestions. When I called the Dallas office the attendant suggested that I check constantly to see about any openings. Might consider flying down to Houston because they have three centers, but I’m hoping to just stay in Dallas. Have a flight on Friday, but I doubt anything will happen. Next hope will be for the end of June.

good luck! I’ve used precheck more times than i can remember, and global entry a handful of times too. Sucks that the international destinations I’ve been going to recently have pre-clearance meaning it really makes no difference (Nassau, Vancouver, Dublin) Out of ORD, my home airport, with my KTN in the res, I get precheck every time

I walked in at DFW. There was a pretty steady line of appointments, but if you are nice (or active military/veteran), they will squeeze you in.
I just went through the Global Entry process here in Boston. Filled out the form online 2 weeks ago, 2 days later I was able to make an appointment — for late August! Made the appointment, but as people said above, I went to the airport, was very polite, and let them know that I was hoping they could squeeze me in, and that I had time to wait (with my work laptop!). It took about an hour to get seen, 5 minutes for the interview, then I got the card a week later. Couldn’t have been much more efficient.
Good luck!
