Traveling via Alaska Air

Traveling via Alaska Air

    Lucky,

I have to travel to Juneau, Alaska for work (from Chicago) and was wondering what makes the most sense. I’m a SPG member (though I don’t have their credit card) and I typically fly Southwest for work. Am I correct in saying Alaska miles are transferrable to SPG points? Also, while I can’t use any of the credit cards for work (our company has an AMEX plan, which I can still earn points on), does it make sense to sign up for the Alaska credit card? I’ll likely fly this airline only one time. Thanks so much!

@LJM — I’d definitely credit your flights to Alaska. Points transfer from SPG to Alaska, not the other way around, but Alaska is a good program for international redemptions, and they consistently sell miles at a reasonable price.

LIM if you have a gold Amex you’d earn 3 points per dollar on airfare so I wouldn’t necessarily get a Alaska card just to book tickets for this flight. However, the card does come with a very nice 25,000 mile bonus which can be banked towards future travel.
