Hi!

So, I’ve seen all these things telling me about how to travel for cheap, but I don’t understand any of it! Over the past two years I have been watching a Youtube channel named Kara and Nate. They used miles and points to fly to Tokyo for $11.50! When I went to the course not one word made any sense to me. I know it might sound stupid that I am on a blog just for that reason, but I seriously would like some answers.

Thanks,
Tevi Funaki

Have you watched the series of videos Ben set up? Click on the Start Here link at the top and go through the beginners guide. Hopefully that will help.

Yeah, go to Start Here and Beginners Guide in the menu. Also you’re asking for some answers, but what’s your question 🙂 ?
The gist of it is what you more or less wrote: accumulate points through flying or credit card signups and bonuses, and redeem them towards plane tickets. The redeeming part is where it can get very technical because you need a good understanding of airline alliances, etc.

The main question is how to fly for cheap.

@Tevi Funaki depends on your definition of “for cheap” and if you’re talking paid travel or using points/miles to pay for most of your flight (there are taxes and fees that are not typically covered with award travel).

If you want to use miles/points to fly then we’d like you to go through the beginners videos to familiarize yourself with the process. At that point if you still have questions we’ll be happy to answer but there’s no sense in us re-inventing the wheel when Ben has created the beginners section for this very purpose.

If you’re simply looking for great airfare bargins, well, Ben does occasionally post those here. You can also check websites such as The Flight Deal or Scott’s Cheap Flights (and there are many, many others). If you’re looking for premium cabin travel on miles/points you can subscribe to Spencer Howard’s alerts at his site, Straight to the Points.
