Transit check-in at LAX

Transit check-in at LAX

  1. Anonymous Guest

Hi, we will be arriving LAX from HKG on Cathay Pacific around 1pm and then have a separate ticket issued on LATAM to take us to Santiago Chile, departing at 3pm.

Is there a check-in counter as soon as you pass through Customs (and at the area where on-through bags are put back on for their onward connection?) We will need to pick up boarding passes and get luggage checked back in for the 2nd flight and we are worried about timing. I just experienced this convenience on my CX to AA flights in Chicago, so curious if there is the service at LAX as well. Thanks!

    Hi Alice,

Is it a separate flight, or an entirely separate ticket? If you’re on a single reservation, and your bags are tagged through, then yes, you could use the transit area to drop your bags after clearing customs. Otherwise you’d need to go upstairs to do so.

The one nice thing about LAX is that the international terminal is very compact, so it shouldn’t take much more time to walk upstairs and use the main check-in desks if need be.
