Tips on routing to AMD, India

Tips on routing to AMD, India

  1. Anonymous Guest

Hi Ben, love your blog! Given all the events in Turkey my mom is quite worried about her layover in IST via Turkish Air. So, I need to change plans. Any tips on routings with decent metal to research to get from ATL to AMD with United / Star Alliance for business class.

    Thanks Ben.

How about Lufthansa ATL-FRA-MAA/DEL/BOM then connect to Air India to AMD?

If you really want a one-stop option though, consider using AA miles to fly Qatar via Doha.

If using United miles to book this award, also consider Jet connections to AMD. You cannot book them on ua.com. Only a phone call will get that done.

You meant AA miles right, @PhatMiles? 🙂

SQ is the only other SA airline that flies to AMD but you’ll usually need their miles for a business class routing and it’ll make for a pretty long routing.

No @Gaurav. I mean United Miles. Jet is a non alliance partner and I used to connect to HYD from BOM & DEL on *A awards booked with UA miles. I never tried 9W on an international route but friends were able to do that with UA miles.

Awesome, that’s good to know. So now 9W partners with all three? UA, AA, and DL. Interesting.

This has been the case for almost 3 years at least that I know off.
    A real itinerary I booked in Jan 2014 : BOS-ORD-FRA-BOM-HYD
    BOM-HYD was on 9W

ATL to AMD on Star Alliance is fairly easy, If and only if you are willing to fly Air India. You can fly ATL-EWR on United and take AI 144 from EWR-AMD. It is a direct flight, but not non stop. One stop in BOM without equipment change. Passport Control and customs will take place at AMD itself. Equipment is 77W so lie flat in J but it is showing its age. A new and better option is AI 171 that flies 3x weekly EWR-AMD with a stop in LHR. Its marketed as a direct flight so there should not be any equipment changes at LHR. This route is operated by a 788 so its significantly better. This is a new flight starting on August 16. Hope you find what you need
