Thoughts on Aeroflot

Thoughts on Aeroflot

I am doing a trip to Russia in December (I know, crazy…), and I’m considering Aeroflot since it is cheap (not using miles for this trip) and pretty much the only airline doing direct flights to Moscow. Has anyone flown it – how is their business class? And I guess how is there economy while I’m discussing it…?

    Thanks!

I can let you know after June. We’re flying business from LHR-SVO (as part of an award ticket using Skymiles) and economy from SVO-ARN a few days later to start a Baltic cruise. Ping me after July 1 and I can give you some feedback. Everything I’ve read said their biz product is pretty good.

I know there business class on their 777s is similar to UA’s J class, Air China’s J class, Qatar’s a320 J class, etc

Last June me and my family flew business class from JFK-SVO-TLV and back. On one leg the bed was fully flat, the other leg it was supposed to be “angle-flat”, although both looked exactly the same. When I put down the bed, there was just a very small difference between that and the fully flat bed. Both were very comfortable. However, the real treat was the excellent customer service. Although I have never flown on Gulf Carriers so I have not experienced that type of service, the Aeroflot service was far superior to AA, Airberlin, Finnair, Delta, Aer Lingus, AirCanada (roughly equal to Austrian) where I flew on business class. From the moment you enter the plane, white gloved flight attendants great you, escort you to your place, and throughout the trip they make sure that you have a fantastic customer service. For instance, the dinner is very personal, in that they bring the next dish when YOU finished the previous dish, and not when everyone finished that. I was so impressed with them that I personally thanked each and every of the 4 flight attendants in the cabin. At the end of the trip, every person got a rose and a nicely packaged Russian tea(leaves) as presents. I would fly with them any time. One more thing, connections were the best ever. From the moment I stepped off the plane at SVO, it took me 6 minutes to get to passport control, go through it, get baggage screened and sit down at the next gate. I think that you will be very pleasantly surprised by their service.

One more thing. I bought our tickets (3) through GetawayASAP after finding the price on Skyscanner. I bought those on 11/1/14 for travels on 6/1/15. Price per person was $2,281 (in my opinion a fantastic value for the JFK-SVO-TLV-SVO-JFK) route. On the Aeroflot website the price was 70% more.

Great to hear! I’ve been very skeptical of them for a long time and heard some horror stories, but those were from decades ago… So this is very reassuring. Definitely a lot more excited now.

Another reason why I choose Aeroflot was that I had enough over the years of big European carriers striking several times a year, and me being stranded because of that. I knew that Aeroflot wouldn’t do that (striking).
