Systemwide upgrades AA

Systemwide upgrades AA

First, thank you so much for putting together the blog and the you tube channel. I have learned a lot and taken advantage of great CC.

My questions relates with American Airlines Systemwide upgrades.

I wonder if there is any way to know you will get the upgrade before buying. I know when browsing tickets some will actually take you but I have not been able to find a flight with the complete trip available. Usually the international flight is not available.

    Thoughts?

I would really be miserable getting stuck in economy for a very long flight.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I wonder if there is any way to be sure systemwide upgrades will go through for sure at the time you buy a ticket. When you book, there is a link to see availability, but almost no (actually Ive seen none) long haul flight has them available.

Ive only seen within the US and international from business to First in the 777-300

It is hard to clear an SWU at time of booking an international flight. Not impossible, but very hard. I can’t remember the last time a SWU cleared when booking to LHR or MAD/MUC/BCN/DUB. Where are you looking to go? That said, I am 5 for 6 this year on upgrades. Checking the seat map on AA.com is one way to get an idea of how many business seats are open (though not foolproof), but you have no way of knowing how many other ExecPlats may be in front of you….

Where are you heading? I will play the SWU lottery on transatlantic flights, and with really good fortune over the years. I try to buy business class to asia, but I just bought a PE ticket to HKG for this coming February. (It was nearly $4000 cheaper.) Now I am just hoping my SWU’s clear… While premium economy is certainly better than economy, a flat-bed is obviously the best. Anecdotally I’ve read that there is a good chance LAX-HKG clears; I’ve heard that DFW-HKG is tougher (the reverse HKG-DFW is my return).

I also have not been able to secure international at the time of booking. I usually fly to europe and south america from the US. I have no experience to Asia, but I assume is even more difficult.
