System Wide Upgrade Rules

System Wide Upgrade Rules

  1. Anonymous Guest

I’m trying to book a flight to SFO for late March and I have some system wide upgrades that expire on 2/29, can I book the flight using the SWU’s before they expire even though they are expiring before the travel date? I’m guessing I can’t do that but I thought I would ask because I am losing Exec Platinum for 2016. Thank You

Per this post by Ben, it seems like travel must be completed by the expiration. http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/05/19/how-to-use-american-airlines-systemwide-upgrades/

However, per this old post on TPG (http://thepointsguy.com/2014/02/extending-american-airlines-evip-systemwide-upgrades-past-february-28-2014/), it seems like you might have a chance by calling in and seeing if the agent will apply them for you. Good luck!

The rules are different now than they were in 2014, so the TPG post is outdated 🙁

SWUs have to be consumed by date of expiration, unfortunately.
