hi y’all thanks for your time! I’m flying with my two kids next week from Syd to Ord. I have a ton of lifemiles I bought. I’m hoping for Syd Tokyo Ord but would love a stopover. I’m thinking of paying 50k + 75k instead of 80k total to create the “stopover”. Is there any other program that would make more sense? I have a lot of United, Thank you, and Citi points. There is also a lot of availability to Iax, sfo and iah on United as a backup plan.

I flew on Cathay to Australia using alaska miles with a stopover in Hk. It’s a shame you can’t do one straight award from Syd to Ord via Tokyo on alaska using jal!!!!

    Thanks for your time!!!

    Hi Mick,

I too am a Sydney Resident and have found KrisFlyer awesome for this type of stuff, especially when flying with my kids.

They have a really nice stopover feature, and you can waitlist awards (every time I have waitlisted, it’s cleared within a week). I would suggest flying from SYD – TYO via SIN, using your stopover there and making your way to ORD using their partner awards.

You can transfer Citi ThankYou Australia points to KrisFlyer.

    Hope this helps,
    Alex

Thanks Alex! Appreciate the reply and will take a look.

I just flew united back to Ord via sfo. Pretty decent seat especially in the bulkhead. Tons of availability to sfo lax and iah l, even for four!
