Anonymous GuestI would like to fly from Johannesburg to the US (anywhere on the East coast or mid country) in Lufthansa F a year from now.
I have enough miles in my MilesandMore account for this redemption.
However, even on their own website using their miles the availability is very very scarce. At least a year ahead. Unfortunately I cannot wait until last minute (a week or so before the flight) in hopes to find availability.
What would be my best strategy to look/find availability?
I am planning to set ExpertFlyer alert, but since I can fly to any city on the East Coast or Midwest (ORD, JFK, ATL, DFW, IAH, IAD etc.), I wonder if they might have more availability to a specific city (let’s say there is more availability to ORD than to ATL)? Or should I set alert for each individual city?
Or should I book J now and then try to upgrade with miles? (miles from MilesandMore).
Any other advice/insight?

Probably best to set an alert for each city to increase your chances.
If you MUST travel and need a guarantee, book the J seats.
