SQ can really hurt you with no consequences?! Beware!!

SQ can really hurt you with no consequences?! Beware!!

Looking to book a major anniversary for the wife and I to NZ. Checked SQ website and surprisingly found two award first class tickets on Air New Zealand SFO to AKL. I have a record locator and have printed out the SQ award booking. When I called SQ to book seats they said they could not actually ticket this…they don’t have access to Air New Zealand F or even J!! But their website prompted me to transfer my points from Chase and Starwood to them. When i told them they had misled me they more or less told me to take a hike and when I asked them as compensation surely they could book me on SQ metal they simply refused to reply!!Happy to send all award ticket documentation and emails to Lucky if he so desires. Bottom line is that SQ awards may not actually exist, your points can be trapped in KrisFlyer and SQ customer response rivals that of United!!

NZ doesnt have first class at all – business class is their highest class of service. Also, KrisFlyer only tells you when you dont have enough miles – it doesnt give any indication of how you can obtain miles.

Having a record locator doesnt automatically mean you have a ticket – airlines issue a record locator even for award holds. This is frustrating for sure – I think your only options is to find award space on another airline, probably with a connection in Asia. You can also try to get SQ KF and Chase/Starwood on a 3 way call to explain the situation and see if they can reverse the transfer of points.
