SPG v Amex Platinum

SPG v Amex Platinum

  1. Anonymous Guest

I am deciding between signing up for an Amex Platinum or an Amex SPG. I was offered a 100k bonus on Platinum and the current 35k bonus on SPG. I am leaning towards SPG in light of the fee increase on Platinum (in part because I assume with the fee increase and only small increase in benefits that they will probably offer even larger bonuses in the future). Which card would you suggest?

Amex fee increase doesnt actually kick in until September 1st so if you sign up now, you’re charged $450. I’d go for the the Amex Plat since you have a 100k bonus offer. The bonus plus the $200 airline fee credit alone is worth it, if only for the first year. Also, if you use Uber at least once a month the credits offset the annual fee further. You’d get $400 in airline credits plus a full year of uber credits for one annual fee.

Of course, if you can manage all the spend for the bonuses, you can apply for both cards.

@DavidW……….Regarding the UBER $200 credit with AMEX Plat Business Card, do you know if this a direct line item credit when using UBER? Meaning is it in the same way that the airline deducts food / beverage when I use my card for purchases?
If that is the case, then I stop using Lyft and switch to Uber. $200 in car credit is huge.

hi @Rob in Miami, the Uber fee credits are on the personal platinum card only unfortunately.

@Rob in Miami Yes, the Uber credits are only available if you have the personal Amex Platinum card. And to get them, you just add your Platinum card as a payment method in the Uber app. You dont need to actually pay with the Amex Platinum. the $15 just comes off your Uber/Uber Eats bill.
