Come early Dec will need approx 7,000 to keep my Aadvantage Exec Plat status. Which would be better cost wise – to make runs on economy class or buy a business class ticket which offers bonus miles (is it 1 1/2) towards status. MIA is closest airport.

I am in the similar boat with delta. If i was you, research how much it would be to take a trip MIA>JFK>LAX and back. Also see how much it costs MIA to SEA and back. You might have to do the MIA to SEA once and then a quick trip to JFK after but look into getting Aadvantage Exec Plat status. It is well worth it in the future.

If you have the capacity to generate credit card spend you could just get AA Executive card and spend $40k before the end of the year and get 10k elite qualifying miles.
