Searching advice for best mileage options LA,Taipe, sydney

I am planning a trip in March leaving from LA to Taipei . I like to visit Sydney either on the outbound or inbound, what will be my best mileage options? I only have enough miles for AA or United economy class. Thanks.

hi Joan–it might be a matter of semantics but I don’t think there is any routing via SYD to TPE. You’ll go to SYD via TPE. How many miles do you currently have?

You’re probably going to have to break it up into three different awards, especially since UA’s new stopover/excursionist perk rules make it difficult. The three awards would be: LAX-TPE, using UA miles on UA/BR, TPE-TYO-SYD using UA miles for NH or TPE-HKG-SYD using AA miles for CX and lastly SYD-LAX using AA miles on AA/QF or UA miles for UA. Not sure what your mileage balances are with UA or AA though so I cant be sure you have enough miles.
