Sapphire Reserve denied, any recourse?
Hi all, I was recently denied on an online application for the CSR card on the grounds of having opened exactly five cards in the past two years. Has anyone had any luck applying via another means and having a different outcome? Two of those five cards were either downgrades of existing fee cards or authorized user on another’s account, so I would hope there would be some qualitative view on that, but a phone rep I spoke to basically told me I’m welcome to take my business elsewhere. Anyone had any success or am I out of luck?
You could try back a couple of times. There are data points out there about applicants who were successful in removing AU cards from their count of new accounts. The only other option I am aware of is going to a Chase branch in person and seeing if you are pre-approved for the CSR. I was able to get the card this way after being (as expected) denied on line.
On a related note, there shouldn’t be any reason for a reconsideration phone call to get to a point where the agent is inviting you to take your business elsewhere. You should hear your spouse calling you for dinner way before it gets to that point. HUCA.
Yep, definitely will just try another agent next time. As far as seeing if pre-approved in a branch, I assume I just walk in and speak to any banker? Thanks Guarav!
Also when you went into the branch did you mention you had been denied previously? Sorry if that’s an obvious question, I have never applied for a card in person!
No, I didn’t mention I had been denied. I just walked in and said I’d like to talk to someone to see what credit cards I’m pre-qualified for. There was a brief wait and then a banker took me to a cube and checked my ID and the system. Instead of asking specifically for the Reserve, leave it open ended, you never know what you might be prequalified for.
perfect, makes sense. Thanks for the help!
Guarav, you’re a saint! I was in and out of a chase branch in about 5 minutes with an approval. Thanks for the help!
Glad it worked out!
