Hi Ben – have you seen problems transferring points from Amex to Aeroplan? I’ve tried linking Aeroplan accounts to three different Amex accounts (all with matching names), and they just get stuck in the “linking in progress” phase. I spent 6 hours on the phone with Amex over the past 3 days trying to fix it. They say there’s something wrong with Air Canada’s side and a ticket has been set up.
In the meantime, I need to get home from Europe and was planning on using Aeroplan pts to fly LH F. Now, seats are disappearing and I’m stuck with OW / BA. I can justify $400 / pp in taxes for LH, but not for BA.
Amex did give me 30K MR points as compensation, for what its worth, “based on my spend over my account history.” That doesn’t get me much though.
Transfering to SQ isn’t an option since they have a 4-hour stopover rule (I want to fly to FRA the night before so I can do the Porsche rental, and my connecting flight from the gateway US city to my destination has a 4:30 layover). ANA won’t work since I only need a one-way, and even with the one-way trick, it will still be a ton of miles for F – 100K per person. Plus, transfer times from MR to ANA are slow…
@ Dan — Hmmm, if you’ll do business class then Delta is an option, though there would be fuel surcharges. Could they not link the account over the phone? That’s very odd. Sorry to hear about your trouble.
