Question 1323

Question 1323

  1. Anonymous

Lucky, I am an AMEX Platinum card holder. Understanding the ticket fares are usually fully refundable and therefore very expensive, does it ever make sense to utilize the “free companion” option for international business and first class tickets? This seems like a very attractive benefit.

You have never written on this, as far as I can tell, and I am wondering if it is because the difference between full-fare and discount-fares is so sizable. Or because the extra taxes.surcharges on the companion fare make less attractive.

    Curious in Houston,

    James

@ James — In almost all cases it’s not worth it, in my experience. You can almost always get two discounted premium cabin tickets for less than you’d pay through the “buy one get one free” benefit.
