I’m pretty new to the miles and points game, and need a little guidance. I’ve been trying to position my points/miles situation for a trip from SEA to the Maldives sometime in October 2016 for me and my wife. I’ve been collecting Alaska mileage plan miles through CC spend for the last year or so and currently have 400K in the bank. That total should rise to around 450K by mid year.
I recently got us each approved for a Chase Sapphire UR card through your referral links. We should each be able to hit the 45K bonus threshold pretty easily over the next few months. I also have a Chase Freedom card (to maximizing spending in the bonus categories), and will likely apply for the Chase Ink card too in the near future. I’ve switched all spending from the Alaska Visa card over to the Chase cards from here on out to put as many UR points in the bank as possible.
My plan originally was to use the Alaska miles for a shower at 38K feet in EK F and use the UR points for hotel (maybe Hyatt GP points for PH Maldives). With the changes to the Alaska/EK redemption policies, that ain’t happening anymore. What would you do? Should I just continue to accrue UR points for hotel and hope for some F space on CX? I feel like I’m pretty good at accruing the currency, I’m just not confident that I can spend it in the most efficient way possible. Does Points Pros handle hotel award bookings as well or just air? I’m tempted to just hand you guys a pile of ASA miles and UR points come November/December of this year and have you and your crew hand me back a nice itinerary with a bow on it.
@ Brian — Thanks for reading, and sounds like you’re off to a good start! Worse case scenario you should still be able to redeem for Emirates business class or Cathay Pacific business class. So I think Alaska miles keep you pretty well positioning, in conjunction with Ultimate Rewards points for a Park Hyatt stay. Good luck!
