Question 1140

Question 1140

I am just worried a 24 hour flight to BKK and back is going to be brutal which is why I would love to go business class. I am United Permier 1K, although the benefits I do not believe work going from the US to Asia. That being said, if I rack up United Miles, is it better to try and fly United hoping I can get an upgrade to business (using miles); or better off just toughing it out flying Qatar. It seems peoples reviews of United economy is horrible compared to others like Qatar, Ethiad, etc. My fear is not getting upgraded on United and sitting in the hell that is United economy on a 24hr flight. Looking to sped up to $1300/ticket as an fyi. Right now Qatar is $1004 a ticket while united and ANA around $1250.

@ John T — If you purchase a minimum of a “W” fare with United you could use systemwide upgrades for the upgrades, which you might have if you’re a 1K? I’d consider doing United if you can find confirmable upgrade space. If you have to waitlist then I’d probably do an airline which has a decent economy product instead.
