Qantas from DFW-SYD in economy

Qantas from DFW-SYD in economy

For spring break, got 3 economy tickets in qantas direct flight from dfw-syd using 40k AA miles / pp. Do the biz class open up as date gets closer? Does it open up in united? Also, qantas, you have to pay $30 to select seats in economy?

Business class awards on a nonstop flight from the US to Australia are nearly impossible to come-by, even close to departure. You could potentially secure one, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up for 3.

I’ve never booked economy awards on Qantas, so not sure about the seat selection fee. If you have status, I’d imagine you could call in and select for free. But, I do think $30 is quite reasonable to select a preferred seat on a 16 hour flight….

Yeah, premium cabin awards to Australia are tough and there’s no pattern for seats opening up close to departure. I’d just keep checking.

Call AA for the Qantas confirmation number and then go to Qantas’ website to see if you can select seats for free.

Qantas does not partner with United so you cant use United miles. UA has their own flights to Sydney, from LAX and SFO that could have seats. Or you may find flights on one of United’s partners and connect in Asia.
