I’ve encountered a really weird situation I don’t understand. Korean Air is flying a B747-8i between ICN and AKL during the southern summer / northern winter. But apparently it’s not possible to purchase a 1st class seat on koreanair.com, Expedia, or Google Flights. However, mileage awards in 1st class are available, but since I don’t have enough miles in my Skypass account, I can’t get as far as seat selection to confirm 1st class. I don’t see any seatmaps for Korean’s B747-8i that don’t have 1st class, either on their site or SeatGuru. And when you start to make an award booking, the site says that Kosmo 2.0 suites are indeed on that flight.

I’m nervous planning to try to redeem for this flight when my date becomes bookable if there’s not actually first class on the flight or if they’re just not booking into it for some reason.

Also, it doesn’t seem to be because the dates I’m trying are at the end of the open schedule. They’re also flying the B747-8i between Auckland and Seoul right now and you can’t purchase 1st class seats on it.

For what it’s worth, ExpertFlyer shows first class availability (R class).

Any idea what’s going on?

I don’t know why Expert Flyer is showing R availability, but what seems to be going on is that Korean has dropped First on many routes, though the seats remain the same.
