Options When AA Cancels “Web Special” Award Flight
I booked an AA first class web special award flight earlier this year (when Lucky posted the deal) from DFW to HND for travel in November. However, it seems that AA recently cancelled this flight (I did not receive any notice, just happened to log in and checked the reservation). I called AA to check on the rebooking options, and they informed me that the only option for “web special” awards is to get a refund of the miles (even though AA cancelled the flight, they said I could not change the reservation to a different date). Has anyone else had experience in this type of situation? It seems that Japan may allow tourists beginning in April, so I was hoping to change the reservation for later in the summer. Thanks!
Hey Trevor just saw your post on the original thread but will reply here to the new post.. I have had a few web specials cancelled due to Covid. I ended up scrapping that AA flight in F and just doing CX F which i cant wait to experience. End of March so just hoping I can go. At any rate, all you can do is get your miles back but you can then go and book whatever other flight you want using those miles. It would essentially be the same as switching to a diff flight and applying the miles you have in the web special award.
I’ve had to cancel this Asia trip twice now, April and then Dec. Hoping 3rd time is a charm for April 2021.
Thanks for the feedback. I was really hoping to preserve the “deal” by rebooking to a later date, but I guess that doesn’t seem possible. Enjoy your trip on Cathay F! That was my first experience in international first class (thanks to this blog), and I still think it is probably my favorite first class product (I’ve also tried Lufthansa, JAL, Thai, Singapore, Qantas, and BA).
