One-way award with lap infant

One-way award with lap infant

My wife and I have booked some upcoming travel using Flying Blue miles from ORD-AMS in business class. In attempting to add our daughter as an infant-in-arms ticket, they are trying to charge us 10% of the one-way gouge rate (the round trip cost is about 60% of the one-way). Is there anything we can do here?

That’s the rule for infants traveling on an award ticket for some programs, one of which is FlyingBlue – https://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/09/17/infant-award-travel/

I’m not sure what you can do to get around the 10%. Maybe ask if you can have the infant with you if you purchase a separate round trip flight for her?

Unfortunately this seems to be pretty standard on international carriers…I think the last time we were in this situation (on BA) they let us cover the 10% with Avios rather than cash.
