NY to Madrid July 2017

NY to Madrid July 2017

Hi everyone, this is all new to me and I need some help! I want to take my son to Madrid in July of next year to a music festival for his graduation/18th birthday (#bestmomever). I am looking for your suggestions for the best rewards points/cards for me to get the best bang for our buck. I don’t travel much, so I don’t already have any rewards/points/miles. Can anyone suggest a card I can apply for that I could use to purchase the festival tickets/hotel tickets for that could possibly give me points to be redeemed to offset some of the flight costs?? I see that some cards are awarding 30,000 points toward travel for the fist $1k or so spent, would that help in possibly getting me one of the flights free (or discounted greatly?)
We would fly out of NY, any airline that would get us to Madrid is fine. Sorry to ramble – thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer.

I’d apply for both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Preferred cards. It’ll require quite a hefty amount of spend ($4k each) but that’ll net you at least 163k Chase UR points. Korean Air Skypass charges 80k round trip per person for business class US-Europe on a SkyTeam carrier. AirEuropa doesnt have the greatest business class but is a direct flight from NY. Otherwise, Delta, Air France and KLM are good options if you can find award space. Aeroflot is another option and Ben had an amazing time on them recently.

If you have the reserve you could also use those UR points to book cash tickets worth $2445 through the Chase portal if you can’t find award space. If you have any points left over you can redeem them for cash at 1c/point to defray the concert tickets. Good luck!
