No Qatar business class availability – even 330 days out

No Qatar business class availability – even 330 days out

    Hi,
I had saved up a bunch of AA miles to fly RT business class on Qatar metal for Dec 2019.
I am not seeing any Qatar business class award availability open up from NY (or in fact any other US city) to JNB or CPT for any day in Dec. I have been checking every single day 330 days out and dont see anything popup.
Any thoughts on whats going on? Is Qatar simply not opening business class seats for one world?

    Have you searched by segment?

Yes, searched by individual segments. I can find availability from DOH to other destinations but nothing from US to DOH or DOH to US business. Wonder whats up.

Strange. There seems to be decent availability up til November (just searched Boston, NYC and Philadelphia), but it does seem to dry up in December, so they definitely aren’t restricting access.

Maybe they just aren’t releasing seats as early as they used to?

Are you searching on AA or BA?
On AA, the award availability shows up for a day (330 days out) but as I click to book it, the page refreshes and the availability goes away the next day andthe cycle repeats with availability appearing for the day after that.
On BA, I dont see any award availability.
I am hoping that it is the latter and that Qatar just isnt opening availability but whats strange is that they are opening availability for flights in other continents for Dec (E.g. DOH to JNB, DOH to MLE, etc.)

Searched on both sites. Here is a random day at the end of October from American, literally availability out of almost every US gateway. I was able to get through to booking.

Again, not sure what’s going on with December from your original question. I’m just suggesting that the issue doesn’t seem to be Qatar limited availability across the board to/from the US…

Sorry if there was any confusion. I meant no Qatar availability to and from US for all of December. Considering 330 days out, we are close to Christmas and not seeing any availability for the entire month seems pretty strange. Especially strange, when they are opening availability outside the US.

It’s not unusual for airlines to heavily restrict award inventory around the December holidays — at least until they start to get a sense of what % of seats can be sold at what price.

Thanks Tiffany. Just didnt see this with Qatar last year. Also, the availability was restricted for all of December. I booked the NYC to JNB leg using UA on south african. Lets hope they open up the availability in Jan so I can book the return leg 🙂

Just booked BOS-JNB-DTW for April-May. I had no problem finding business availability from any of the east coast gateways. One tip – if you want to travel in Q suites, call Qatar with specific city pairs and dates and they will tell you if the suites are available. Their website is not up to date with the seating information.
