No options when trying to book using miles on Alaska?
Hello all,
I am trying to use my Alaska Air award miles for the first time to book business class from SEA to HYD. When I try to book tickets, there are virtually no options and the few that are listed say “mixed cabin” where the short leg is in business class and the long hop over the pond is coach, for 140k miles. Is this the typical result set or should I be trying to use my miles in some alternate manner or ?
thanx much,
Susanne
Susie, since there are no non-stop flights from SEA to HYD your best bet will be to search individual segments for availability. Start with the overwater leg first and once you find availability there look for connecting segments to SEA and to HYD.
That’t the worst thing about AK search is the multi class result return. Anyway try searching on BA. You have to have an account but you can see Cathay Pacific. The problem you are facing is there really isn’t an AK partner with a strong presence in India, such as with the main 3 alliances. I see CX has a flight from HKG to HYD with availability on the dates I checked and they are going to start flying the 350 out of Vancouver soon. Good luck, take @MidSouth Skier advice and search segments SEA-HKG, YYR-HKG, SFO-HKG etc, then HKG-HYD.
Emirates is probably your best bet availability-wise, but again — don’t search all the way through. Look for SEA>DXB, SFO>DXB, etc., and then when you find a date with space on that segment, look all the way through to HYD, or call and ask about availability for both flights.
