No AAdvantage Awards Available if trying to leave within a week from today

Has anyone noticed recently that AA have completely blocked the release of seats on most routes within 7 days from your desired departure? Take this week. I checked from my home airport DFW and the only thing I can find within the next week is to PHX. If you look exactly 1 week from today you can go anwyhere, but less than a week and they completely 0 out. Last night flights were T7 for every flight from SAN to DFW 12/14 so I snagged one as I was curious what would happen today and sure enough all flights are zeroed out. 1 week from today and you will see plenty of availability.

is this a trend we are seeing?

I think the trend is that AA is just generally very stingy with MilesAAver awards. Looking at PHL to SFO/LAX, I see the same thing. No Saver awards. But AAnytime awards are pricing at 20k each way (which is not bad for a transcon) on some days, 30k on others and then ridiculous 50k or 65k on others.

AA Saver flights from SAN-DFW and return appear wide open within the week as I write. Not sure why you’re not seeing what I’m seeing. Have you phoned AA?
