MLE to CAI using miles/points

MLE to CAI using miles/points

    Hi All –

Does anyone know a good redemption option for getting from Male (MLE) to Cairo (CAI)? Most likely I would go through the ME on Qatar, Etihad, or Emirartes. Perhaps Air India?

Anyways, does anyone know a good redemption here for economy or biz? I have pretty much all the points currencies covered.

I don’t think AA will let me route through the ME. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Daniel,

You’re in luck– AA will, in fact, let you route from MLE to CAI through the Middle East. The reason for this is because Egypt is considered a part of the Middle East.

You could try to do a MLE-AUH-CAI routing. I just took a flight from MCT-AUH-CAI with EY, and it was pretty good, as far as recliner J class goes. That’ll cost you 30k miles in J or just 17.5K in Y.

    Happy traveling!

Thank you SOOOOOO much. This is awesome!

Qatar flies the a350 with flat seats from MLE to DOH, so I’m hoping to make that work!

Oh wow there are no direct flights between Doha and Cairo. I’m guessing this has to do with the political mess from before. Surprising

That’s exactly what I was going to write you. The issue with going via Doha would be that unless you can’t go directly to Egypt from Doha. You could, in theory, go from MLE to DOH to AMM to CAI. The problem is that they may only give you Y class from DOH to AMM considering QR files Arabian flights as having economy and first, instead of business and economy. AA used to charge business rates for that, but I’ve heard of fewer and fewer people be successful. However, it’s a short flight, so if you’re willing to just fly economy for that short leg, or fork out First class rates, you could make it happen. If you have sufficient points, I’d TOTALLY do the first class option. The Al-Safwa Lounge (First class lounge) in Doha is impeccable. Just my two cents.

Let me know what you decide!
