miles redemption
Please let me know best way to use mileage. Trip from LA to Sydney via Taipei Taiwan by economy class AA/United/Singapore mileage. Free stopover possible?? I also have enough points in Chase ultimate rewards to fly other airlines. Thanks.
@Steve Chu This is a difficult one. The only way is if TPE is on the way, meaning a carrier hub to change flights if a direct flight is not available. AA and SQ do not fly to TPE direct. EVA and China Airlines do, with EVA being United miles and China Air being Delta miles. Neither program allows for free stopovers.
With United you could fly EVA to TPE and change planes to Air China or possibly Asiana as they fly down to Sydney. EVA doesn’t so you are at the mercy of the United search engine to route you through TPE. Having checked a few dates this doesn’t seem like a route you will find.
If you need to do this then you will probably have to get 2 award tickets unless you use Flying Blue and can find a China Airlines LAX-TPE-SYD
@Mark s, wouldn’t a star alliance redemption using SQ be an option with free stopover included on RT award or just paying $100 for a one way? Of course I haven’t looked at rates recently so not sure what mileage is required.
Hi @Gaurav Maybe but TPE is not on a published route to SYD and they aren’t forthcoming with their *A routing rules. You’d have to feed a SQ agent EVA to TPE with a free/paid stopover and then maybe SQ or Thai down to SYD. I guess it’s worth a try, I don’t know. It’s 110K RT to South Pacific from USA in economy plus fees which EVA doesn’t have but SQ does.
