    Hey so totally new to the points game but have a ton of Amex Membership rewards points I’d like to find a way to leverage on the new Cathay Pacific direct from IAD to HKG.

    Is there a way to transfer to JAL, or Alaska via more than one program? I don’t see either on the Membership Rewards page. I see Asia miles but the miles needed to book are significantly higher than the 100k round trip with either JAL or Alaska.

    BA/IB Avios are your only other oneworld option and they’d charge 200K one-way (170K off-peak) in First, 150K/125K in Business and 100K/65K in Premium Economy plus there will be fuel surcharges so they’re not a great option.

    I think you’d have better luck transferring to a Star Alliance partner and flying ANA, Singapore or Air Canada though of course that means an extra connection.

    BA’s award prices are steep but if you fly from HKG to IAD, there are no fuel surcharges, just taxes. Takes the sting out of using Avois just a little.

    Technically you can transfer MR to SPG to AS/JL but 1000 MR points = 333 starpoints which is a crap rate. PLEASE DONT.

    But BA/IB is still double the price each way vs. the JL/AS round-trip.
