Maximize Points for Destination Wedding

Maximize Points for Destination Wedding

My fiancee and I are planning on getting married at a Marriott property in Puerto Rico next year. I’m curious what your thoughts are on the best way to maximize my points earnings for this. We are planning on spending about $10,000 directly with Marriott for the wedding/reception and possibly pay for all the rooms and have people reimburse us.

What are my best options? Marriott card? CSR? Amex Platinum? SPG Amex? Thanks for your feedback!

I would consider opening a few new cards and using them for the wedding to meet minimum spending requirements. Otherwise a card that bonuses travel/hotel/Marriott spend would work well.

There are limitations to how much you can earn as an event organizer so be sure to check Marriott’s Event Organizer FAQ page to set your expectations ahead of time.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like the maximum points you could earn for an event is 50,000 which doesn’t seem great. But I wonder if using Marriott CC if I would get 5X spending at the property on top of the rewards for booking an event with them? Does that make sense or would it be double dipping?

Yes you would. Credit card rewards would be independent of the points issued by the hotel even though you may be earning the same currency
