Marriott Travel Packages

Marriott Travel Packages

Has ANYONE been able to use a pre-merger Marriott 7-night Cat 1-5 travel package on an SPG hotel? I knew it wouldn’t happen in the first few days, but I’ve been calling Marriott and SPG every few days since the merger and it seems utterly ridiculous that there’s no way for them to somehow hold the reservation I want since I have the certificate and the dates are available for points.

I’ve been calling every 2-3 days since the merger, and some rep always says it’ll be in 24-48 hours.

Have you tried calling SPG? I don’t have any travel package certs, but was able to use a Ritz e-cert at a SPG hotel by calling SPG.

Marriott apparently can’t see SPG properties in their reservation system yet, and vice versa.

Every single call I’ve tried that. I usually start at the Marriott Platinum line and get transferred to SPG. A few times, I’ve been on a conference call with both a Marriott and SPG rep, with them trying to tell each other how to make it work. I was told to contact the hotel directly, so I did, and they told me I needed to buy points.

    I’m like… you’re not getting me here. I HAVE the certificate ALREADY…

Well that’s ridiculous/miserable. Maybe try just getting them to book the reservation, then telling them you want to use the e-cert? Not sure if the “travel packages” part is complicating matters.

Or just wait, because it’s a goat rodeo over there.

Just called SPG again. They say they can book anniversary nights, they can book on points, but they just can’t use Marriott 7-night certificates yet. They even read me the number of my certificate. They just can’t attach it to a reservation, or do a hold on points like Marriott can do (only for Marriott properties).

I asked how long, she said no idea.

It just seems really, really unfair to anyone using 7-night certificates that credit card nights and points work between the programs, just not this. It’s already hard enough to plan for 7 straight nights with “regular” points reservations chipping away the available rooms every day.
