Marriott or UR to top off United account?

Marriott or UR to top off United account?

  1. Anonymous Guest

For some reason my brain can’t see which is the obvious answer. If I’m looking for 50,000 miles to top off my united account to redeem a one-way saver business ticket (for 70k), is it better to transfer 50k UR from CSR, or 112,000 from Marriott. I have close to 500k marriott points, and around 160k UR, and typically earn a good amount of Marriott points from employer-paid stays.

    thx

Ben values 112K Marriott points at $896 (112K * .008) and 50K URs at $850 (50K * .017). If they were my points and I didn’t have any big plans for the Marriott points I’d spend them just because the URs are so flexible.

Have you considered a Marriott Travel Package? Great value since you wanted United miles.

Was looking at that. But my work/family setup these days makes a 7-night stay somewhere very unlikely in the near future, so as good of a value as it is I don’t think I’ll really maximize it.

    Thanks!

Frequent Miler has written that sometimes he just uses the points from the Travel Package for flights and throws away the hotel certificates and still comes out ahead so it might be worth at least doing the math.
