Making the most of AMEX Biz Platinum

Making the most of AMEX Biz Platinum

  1. Paul TATK New Member

I always seem to run into timing issues on these credit card applications. Bear with me …

I had a targeted bonus offer on the AMEX Business Gold, which seemed like a no-brainer. I paid part of my property taxes on that card to get the sign-up bonus. I was going to get a Delta Biz Gold and Delta Biz Platinum for the rest of the taxes, but …

I am SUPER STOKED at the thought of the 50% Membership Rewards refund available to Enhanced Business Platinum members. I would get WAY more value out of that than from an extra 120,000 Delta miles. Plus, I don’t think it’s the last time Amex will offer special bonuses on those cards.

My problem is, you need to spend $15,000 in the first three months to get the full 100,000 point sign-up bonus. And since I only get one bonus per card per lifetime, I don’t want to waste it.

Even paying off the remaining $7,000 in taxes, I’m $8,000 shy, and don’t anticipate any other huge expenses (fingers crossed). That’s a big shortfall. Any advice on how to make it up? The best thought I had was an $8,000 pre-payment of income taxes, which would sting, but I hopefully get those refunded in large part …

P.S. 100,000 points for $15,000 in spend is only 6.6 points per dollar, and I would probably eat 2.7% fees on all of it. Compare that to 17 miles per dollar on the double-Delta plan. But to have my alreadly large MR balance be worth 2 cents a point minimum … ooooh …

I would normally suggest gift cards/MS but that’s precarious with MS now unfortunately.
