Lufthansa or ua first

Lufthansa or ua first

  1. Anonymous Guest

Hi, I have been lucky enough to book my wife and our one year old on a first class flight to Rome next week through aeropln (cheap infant fees!). Currently she is in ua first but I could “upgrade” to Lufthansa first for around $400 in fees one way. What are people’s thoughts?

Also aeropln seems unable to see the lh Munich to Rome leg even though it’s on their and united website

  2. Anonymous Guest

Oh Lufthansa, certainly, no question, provided you’re willing to pay the fees. United business is better than Lufthansa business, but there is no comparison when it comes to the first class products.

If you call, an Aeroplan agent should be able to do that for you over the phone. They have issues with LH space sometimes.

Unfortunately I am trying aeroplan for next week too in lh f and they can’t match what United is showing. United shows 2 f seats to Frankfurt and aeropln zero

@Mick is the UA space showing as Saver space? UA lets you book standard awards for LH F and that space wont display on Aeroplan

  5. Mick Member

Hi David thanks for the reply. It is saver space at 110k on United. Aeropln was showing on website but not allowing a phone booking. Now it’s not on the website. Still showing on united

Last week they could see the Frankfurt flight but not the connecting flight in Europe even though it was on the website

    Hang up and call again!

@David W, that’s an interesting quirk about UA allowing standard awards to be booked on partners. My understanding was that only saver space could be booked. Is LH the only one?

I’m not entirely sure. I’ve also never tried to book a standard award with UA miles for travel on LH.

Did you see anything different Tiffany? I still see that flight available on United. Is it worth calling?

  13. Anonymous Guest

I think it’s worth calling — I don’t see why that would be phantom space, and it looks like the Aeroplan website is playing games. Looking into that aspect a bit more, but you should definitely call.

Have the agent go segment by segment, and if they don’t see the space tell them it’s available in Starnet and ask if they can direct sell it in.

Thanks Tiffany. Will call them today and see!!

  15. Mick Member

Actually seems to be the small leg In Europe they can’t see

  16. Mick Member

Which is interesting as United doesn’t show the small leg on its own either

  17. Anonymous Guest

In that case it might be phantom space. 🙁

Thanks for all help everyone. I managed to find a flight via Munich for my wife in first which is great!! Aeropln and united both showed ChicagO to Rome via Frankfurt on the website but the aeropln call center couldn’t book it and United wouldn’t show any direct flight if I just searched the Frankfurt Rome leg. It must have been phantom space which seems to be a real problem with LH and aeroplan as noted by numerous blogs and the call center itself. Ironically the Munich option wasn’t even on the website for aeropln but they could see the legs
