Lufthansa First – more air time or more FCT time?

Lufthansa First – more air time or more FCT time?

I’m a committed but not prolific Miles and More collector, and am burning a hefty chunk of my account on my first LH F redemption in a couple of weeks.

As I want to do it properly, I’m looking for the opinion of LH F class regulars, do you think there is more value in a shorter (1hr only) stay in the FCT and more air time (10.30hrs), or a longer (2.5hrs) FCT stay and less time aboard (8.20hrs)?

Both flights are operated on B748s so no difference in equipment and my schedule is flexible. Thanks!

I can only offer an opinion on our F trip IAD-MUC-DXB… it took more than an hour to experience what the lounge in MUC had to offer… showers, relaxing and snacking, and having a decent meal in the lounge. As I understand the FCT, there’s even more to it than that. If the sole difference is the length of flight, my advice would be to spend the extra time in the FCT. But if the extra flight time means you are closer to your destination at the end (in both time and distance), then opt for the extra time onboard.
Of course other circumstances could change my opinion (like if shorter flight on LH F also meant longer time in another F cabin with a different airline), but I digress.

Thanks Joe, schedule really isn’t an issue as I’ve got multiple connections anyway (trip is HAM-SAT). Just wondering really where people believe the most fun is to be had on LH F, in FRA at the FCT or in the air!

I’ve never visited the FCT but I agree that an hour is probably way too short to be able to fully enjoy it, based on what I’ve read.

We have been to the FCT one time on our only first class award redemption. The flight was great, but I would definitely want more time in the lounge and we spent about 3 hours there. The sit down dining and the whisky selection alone can take up a bit of time, but you can also use the shower (or bath, I can’t remember!) rooms as well. I probably spent 15 -20 minutes just walking around and exploring things. Have fun!
