Leaving a hotel early

Leaving a hotel early

  1. Chris_iOW Member

    Lucky,

I’m currently on night one of a four night stay at an IHG property. My plans have now changed so I need to leave after 2 nights.

The room was paid for in advance so there is no refund to request, but I want to make sure I still get all the points (and nights for elite status). Should I therefore not tell the hotel I am leaving. It feels a shame to let the room go empty when it could be resold but I don’t want to tell them only to lose out on the last two nights points.

    Thanks

    Chris

@Chris_iOW unless you know for sure that the property is sold out, you’re not wasting anything and anyway, the room HAS already been sold – to you! Just put a DND on the door and leave. On your regular check out day just call the front desk and let them know you left and forgot to take off the sign out of courtesy. Even if the front office was open to helping you, they’d have to check you out of the room to resell it and it would just create too much uncertainty about correctly getting points issued for me.

Thanks Gaurav, went with your advice and all worked a treat. Hotel seemed pretty quiet anyway so all okay! 🙂
